Abstract

The study aimed to reveal the causal relationships between mind wandering, mindfulness, and Cognitive Failure among students of the University college in Haqel, and to arrive at a structural model that explains them, and to reveal the extent to which the relationship between cognitive failure and both mind wandering and mindfulness differs according to gender and academic achievement. The researcher used the descriptive, correlational, comparative approach, as it suits the nature of the current study. The mind wandering scale developed by Tawalbeh (2023), and the mind wandering and cognitive failure scales prepared by the researcher, were applied to a sample of (170) male and female students. The results showed that the study variables form a structural model that explains the causal relationships between mind wandering, mindfulness, and cognitive failure. The results also showed that the mind wandering variable mediates the relationship between mind wandering and cognitive failure. The results also showed that there is a difference in the correlational relationship between cognitive failure and both mind wandering. And mindfulness depending on the variables of gender and academic achievement. Based on the results of this study some recommendations were provided, including directing the attention of university administration officials to the necessity of identifying the level of mind wandering and cognitive failure among students, intervening by developing appropriate strategies to reduce it, and directing academic advisors to the importance of recognizing the level of mind wandering among students. And providing training programs that work to develop them.
