The Reality of Empowering Yemeni Women Economically in the Field of Small Enterprises – a Case Study: Union of Yemeni Women

The study aimed to identify the reality of empowering Yemeni women economically in the field of small enterprises. To achieve the aim of the study, I adopted the analytical approach that is based on annual reports and the literatures related to (341) projects affected by the Union of Yemeni Women during the period 2019-2020.
The study arrived at several results, the most important of which are: there is diversity in the implemented projects and a growth of (16.2%) for the projects affected during the year (2020) compared to the year (2019) for the two years (2019-2020). The small projects in the field of industry had the highest rate of (67.2%), and the largest handicraft project affected by women is the sewing project with a percentage of (30.8%).
The study recommended several recommendations, the most important of which are: establishing effective Union community centers in all different Yemeni governorates, aiming at empowering women economically in the field of the various small enterprises, in addition to qualifying Yemeni women and providing them with life, professional and craft skills, and then support them with empowerment projects that suit them and their capabilities, as well as encouraging microfinance institutions and granting it facilitations to support this field. Moreover, the study also urges international and regional donors and development partners to support sustainable development projects that contribute to empowering Yemeni women and shifting them from need to production.
