Imam Al-Suhayli’s Choices in interpretation in Surat (Sad) A Comparative Interpretive Study

Abstract

Allah Almighty has prepared for the Holy Qur'an in every era and country distinguished scholars who serve it from all sides, clarifying its meanings and explaining its rulings. Among these scholars is Imam Abu al-Qasim al-Suhayli (may Allah have mercy on him), who died in the year (581 AH). Although he did not write an independent interpretation, he served the Holy Qur'an with great services through several works in which he left a great interpretive wealth. This study (Imam Al-Suhayli’s choices in interpretation in Surat (Sad), a comparative Interpretive study) aims to collect Al-Suhayli’s interpretive choices in Surat (Sad), and study them in a comparative study, to identify their scientific value, and then highlight his position (may Allah have mercy on him) in interpretation and Qur'anic sciences, as well as to clarify the foremost interpretive aspects in those places that Al-Suhayli addressed in interpretation in that noble Surat (Sad). This research was based on three approaches: inductive, analytical, and comparative. It was divided into an introduction, three chapters, and a conclusion. The first chapter: Imam Al-Suhayli and his heritage in interpretation. The second: the concept of choice in interpretation and its importance. The third: Imam Al-Suhayli’s choices in interpretation in Surat (Sad), a comparative study. Then came  the conclusion, which included the most important results and recommendations, including: that Imam Al-Suhayli - may God have mercy on him - was an encyclopedic scholar, a verifier, a scrutinizer, and a critic. He was interested in the linguistic analysis of the words of the Holy Qur'an; that he agreed with the public in some of his choices and disagreed with them in others; and that he had accurate and sound choices.
