The Impact of Ibn Kalab on the Ash'arites and Maturidites Regarding the Issue of Faith

Abstract

This research is entitled: "The Impact of Ibn Kalab on the Ash'arites and Maturidites Regarding the Issue of Faith." It aims to examine the views of the Ash'arites and Maturidiyyah on the definition of faith, its increase and decrease, and the exception in it according to the two groups, as well as to highlight the extent of their influence by their sheikh, Ibn Kalab.

This research followed the descriptive, inductive, analytical methodology.

I have divided this research into an introduction, a preface, three main chapters and a conclusion.

In the introduction, I addressed the research problem, its scope, objectives, questions, methodology, previous studies, research procedures and the research plan. In the preface, I defined faith linguistically and according to Ahl Al-Sunnah.

In the first chapter, I explored the concept of faith according to the Ash'arites and Maturidiyyah, citing the statements of their scholars on the issue and the extent of their influence by Ibn Kalab. In the second chapter, I addressed the increase and decrease of faith according to the Ash'arites and Maturidiyyah, presenting their statements and analyzing the impact of Ibn Kalab's views on them. In the third chapter, I examined the exception in faith as stated by the Ash'arites and the Kalabiyyah, quoting their statements, showing the extent of their influence by Ibn Kalab, and weighing which of the two groups is closer to his perspective.

The study concluded with several findings, including: that  the Ash'arites are closer to Ibn Kalab and Ahl Al- Sunnah than the Maturidites on the issue of faith.
