Abstract

This study investigates the approach of Imam Ibn 'Aqilah Al-Makki in his Quran exegesis entitled (Al-Jawhar Al-Manḍūm fī Al-Tafsīr Bil-Marfoo’ min Kalaam Sayyīd Al-Mursalīn Wal-Maḥkūm [The Stringed Jewel in Exegesis by the Sayings Ascribed to the Prophet or by a Companion to the Prophet]). This study consists of two chapters. The first one introduces the Imam (the author of the investigated book) with a brief biography that contains: his name, early life, trips, teachers, students, publications, and then his decease. The second chapter reviews his approach in: Quran exegesis, choosing Hadiths and verifying them, Al-Qirāat [ways of Qur’an recitation], and revelation reasons, as well as stating his attitude towards Al-Israelīāt [Judeo-Christian reports], and jurisprudent rulings. In addition, it finally concludes with the main findings and recommendations.
