Sustainable Tourism Development on the Island of Kamaran (Opportunities and Challenges)

Sustainable tourism development is one of the most important development programs at the present time, because it is based mainly on ecological balance and contemplation of nature, plants, animals and birds, as well as learning about the accomplishments and history of peoples and the culture of societies. In addition, it helps to protect the natural and cultural heritage, generate continual job opportunities for the members of the local community, and improve their living conditions.
From this point of view, the research was concerned with addressing the issue of sustainable tourism development on the island of Kamaran, by studying the natural and human constituents and potentials in it, as well as the challenges it faces, as a contribution from the researcher in introducing the island’s huge touristic constituents and wealth, making it one of the most important tourist destinations in Yemen. All this reaches to determine the most appropriate spatial sites for the establishment of this proposed project and develop the appropriate structural plan for it, according to an applied scientific methodology that is based on field work and geographic information systems (GIS) techniques, and then propose appropriate recommendations.
