Balancing between the Two Books: Nihayat Al-Mutlab and Rawdhat Al-Talibeen

Abstract

The research “Balancing between the Two Books: Nihayat Al-Mutlab and Rawdhat Al-Talibeen” attempted to address a number of issues, aiming at highlighting the points of agreement and disagreement between the approaches of the two Shafe'i Imams: Al-Juwayni and Al-Nawawi in their books under study. The research started with introducing the two Imams, their Sheikhs, students and books, beside introducing their two books under study. Then the research moved on to talk about balancing between the two approaches of Imam Al-Juwayni and Imam Al-Nawawi through several matters, so it balanced between them in quoting from Imam Al-Shafi’i, then it compared between them in beginning the chapters of issues, so it mentioned Al-Juwayni’s method: that he titles the chapters of issues, then explains the evidence for them first from the Qur’an and the Sunnah, then mentions the opinion of Al-Shafi’i, and follows it with the opinions of the Shafi’is and their variances; as for Imam Al-Nawawi: he begins with the title of the chapter or division, then follows it with his summary of the opinion of Al-Rafi’i, then the opinion of Al-Shafi’i and the Shafi’is, if they differ, he explains the strong view and the weak or deviant view in the doctrine, and he mentions the evidence sometimes and sometimes he does not mention it. These are in addition to other things included in the research, which follows the inductive approach then the descriptive and analytical approaches, ending with mentioning the most important results, among which is: that the first editor of the Shafi’i's doctrine is Imam Al-Juwayni in his book: Nihayat Al-Mutlab, which is a reference for other editors of the Shafi’i's doctrine who came after him. The research recommends taking care of studying the approaches of the Shafi’i jurists in their books. The research is appended with an index of resources and references, so God I ask for achievement and acceptance.
