Abstract

Imam Ibn Qotaiba and his Methodology in Reporting and Orienting Quran Modes of Recitation in his Book: Tafseer Ghareeb Al-Quran", A descriptive analytic study

This research contains three chapters and a conclusion:

Chapter 1 is a biography of Imam Ibn Qotaiba and an introduction to his book: Tafseer Ghareeb Al-Quran". Chapter 2 explains the methodology of Imam Ibn Qotaiba in presenting the details of Quran modes of recitation and in tuning them. Chapter 3 is about the methodology of Imam Ibn Qotaiba and his resources in tuning Quran modes of recitation. The conclusion contains the main results as follows:

First, Ibn Qotaiba is an outstanding scholar in Quran sciences and writings particularly in his book: Tafseer Ghareeb Al-Quran".

Second, Ibn Qotaiba, in his book: Tafseer Ghareeb Al-Quran", presented a set of  Quran modes of recitation of which some were tuned if needed, and some were ascribed to their reciters, and most of them were oriented, mentioning his resources in orientation.

Third: All what other has been communicated by Ibn Qotaiba from other scholars in orienting Quran modes of recitation was thoroughly examined and criticized upon argumentation. Upon this argumentation, some recitation mode orientations were refuted, and some were enhanced by strong reasoning that shows his excel and mastery in this field.

Fourth, Ibn Qotaiba was not tough in orienting Quran modes of recitation. He highlighted the effect of unfamiliar vocabulary in the meaning in the process of orientation. This was done in three ways: by showing that the Quran mode of recitation dealt with has already included the meaning of the unfamiliar vocabulary, by showing that the unfamiliar vocabulary reports an additional provision, or by giving a new meaning other than the meaning of a similar of such vocabulary.
