Types of Publications

AJOBAS has no restrictions on the length of manuscripts, provided that the text is concise and comprehensive. Full experimental details must be provided so that the results can be reproduced. AJOBAS requires that authors publish all experimental controls and make full datasets available where possible. The main article types are as follows:

Original Research Papers: The journal considers all original research manuscripts provided that the work reports scientifically sound experiments and provides substantial new information. Authors should not unnecessarily divide their work into several related manuscripts, although Short Communications' preliminary but significant results will be considered. The quality and impact of the study will be considered during peer review.

Short Research Papers are single-finding papers that can be reported with one or two illustrations (figures/tables) and lab protocols. Posters from conferences or internal meetings may be summarized as Short Research Articles (or Research Notes). In many cases, additional detail, particularly in the methods, description of the results, and/or discussion/conclusions, will be required to ensure that readers (and referees) have enough information to understand the description of the work.

Short Communications are urgent communications of important preliminary results that are very original, of high interest, and likely to impact the journal's subject area significantly. A short communication only needs to demonstrate a ‘proof of principle’. Authors are encouraged to submit an Original Research Paper to the journal following their Short Communication. There is no strict page limit for a Short Communication.

Review Papers: These papers will not have empirical data acquired by the authors but will include a discussion of papers published and data acquired in a specific area. These provide concise and precise updates on the latest progress made in a given area of research. Systematic reviews should follow the PRISMA guidelines.

Case reports / Case studies (Mainly for bio-medical papers):
Case reports describe patient cases of particular interest due to their novelty and potential message for clinical practice. While there are several types of case reports, originality, and clinical implications constitute the main virtues by which case reports are judged. (Ref: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18677298). Case studies are an invaluable record of the clinical practices of a profession. While case studies cannot provide specific guidance for managing successive patients, they are a record of clinical interactions that help us frame questions for more rigorously designed clinical studies. Case studies also provide valuable teaching material, demonstrating classical and unusual presentations that may confront the practitioner. (Ref: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2597880/). The abstract (not more than 250 words) of the Case report should have the following sections: Aims, Presentation of Case, Discussion, and Conclusion.

Submission Process

Manuscripts for AJOBAS should be submitted online at the submission website. The submitting author, generally the corresponding author, is responsible for the manuscript during the submission and peer review. The submitting author must ensure that all eligible co-authors have been included in the author list and have all read and approved the submitted version. To submit your manuscript, register and log in to the submission website. Once you have registered, click here to go to the submission form. All co-authors can see the manuscript details in the submission system if they register and log in using the e-mail address provided during manuscript submission.

Accepted File Formats

Authors must use the Word template or LaTeX template to prepare their manuscripts. Using the template file will substantially shorten the time to complete copy-editing and publication of accepted manuscripts. The total amount of data for all files must not exceed 100 MB. If this is a problem, please get in touch with the Editorial Office ajobas@hoduniv.net.ye.

Brief guidelines

Title Page
The title page should contain a brief title, the name(s) of the author(s), and their affiliations. The title should be without any abbreviations, and it should enlighten the contents of the paper. All affiliations should be provided with a lower-case superscript letter after the author's name and in front of the appropriate address.

The corresponding author's name should be indicated along with telephone and fax numbers (with country and area code) along with full postal and e-mail addresses.

Abstract
The abstract should be concise and informative. It should not exceed 350 words in length. It should briefly describe the purpose of the work, techniques and methods used, major findings with important data, and conclusions. Different sub-sections, as given below, should be used. No references should be cited in this part. Generally, non-standard abbreviations should not be used; if necessary, they should be clearly defined in the abstract at first use.

Keywords
Please provide 4 to 6 keywords which can be used for indexing purposes.

Introduction
Provide a factual background, a clearly defined problem, a proposed solution, a brief literature survey, and the scope and justification of the work done.

Sources of materials
The sources of all materials used and relevant ethical framework for all experiments should be identified (ethics approval and/or written informed consent). Please explain how and where tissue samples were collected, handled, and stored. For bacterial strains or cells, provide the name and supplier. For studies involving humans, the following information is required: number of subjects, time and place of sample collection, age range, sex ratio, inclusion and exclusion criteria, criteria used for diagnosis, and description of any control subjects. Please note that the term ‘normal’ should be avoided for controls. Instead, the precise health status needs to be described, such as ‘healthy’, or ‘individuals with no recorded tumor complication’.

Results & Discussion
Results should be clearly described concisely. Results for different parameters should be described under subheadings or in separate paragraphs. Table or figure numbers should be mentioned in parentheses for better understanding.
The discussion should not repeat the results but provide a detailed interpretation of the data. This should interpret the significance of the findings of the work. Citations should be given in support of the findings. The results and discussion can also be described as separate, if appropriate.

Conclusions
This should briefly state the major findings of the study.

Supplementary Materials: Describe any supplementary material published online alongside the manuscript (figure, tables, video, spreadsheets, etc.). Please indicate the name and title of each element as follows: Figure S1: title, Table S1: title, etc.

Acknowledgments: All sources of funding for the study should be disclosed. Indicate grants you have received to support your research work and if you received funds to cover publication costs. Some funders will not refund article processing charges (APC) if the funder and grant number are not clearly and correctly identified in the paper. Authors can enter Funding information separately into the submission system while submitting their manuscripts. Such funding information, if available, will be deposited to FundRef if the manuscript is finally published.

Conflicts of Interest: Authors must identify and declare any personal circumstances or interest that may be perceived as inappropriately influencing the representation or interpretation of reported research results. If there is no conflict of interest, please state "The authors declare no conflict of interest." Any role of the funding sponsors in the design of the study; in the collection, analyses or interpretation of data; in the writing of the manuscript, or in the decision to publish the results must be declared in this section. If there is no role, please state “The founding sponsors had no role in the design of the study; in the collection, analyses, or interpretation of data; in the writing of the manuscript, and in the decision to publish the results”.

References: References must be numbered in order of appearance in the text (including table captions and figure legends) and listed individually at the end of the manuscript. We recommend preparing the references with a bibliography software package like EndNote, ReferenceManager or Zotero to avoid typing mistakes and duplicated references. We encourage citations to data, computer code, and other citable research material. If available online, you may use reference style 9. below.

  • Citations and references in Supplemental files are permitted, provided that they also appear in the main text and in the reference list.
  • Please download the article template to see the reference style that you should follow.
  • A typical reference to an article in a journal would be like:

[1] Al-Kamarany Amood M., Albaser N.A., Kadi H.O. & Lyoussi B. (2022). Effect of Khat on Blood Coagulation, Abhath Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences, 1(2), 1-5.

A reference to a book would be on the following lines:

[2] A.A. Kilbas, H.M. Srivastava and J.J. Trujillo (2006). Theory and Applications of Fractional Differential Equations. North-Holland Math Stud, Elsevier, Amsterdam.
