The Role of Visionary Leadership in Achieving Sustainable Development in Light of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030

Abstract

The research aimed to identify the role of visionary leadership in achieving sustainable development within the framework of Vision 2030, as well as to identify the concept of visionary leadership and its most prominent features and roles. It also aims to portray the concept of sustainable development and its most prominent goals and characteristics, besides the most prominent challenges facing both visionary leadership and sustainable development. In addition, the study sought to align the goals of sustainable development with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. The study relied in deducing its results and forming its recommendations on the approach of content analysis of related previous studies, through minute methodological review of a group of selected respected scientific literatures, by analyzing these studies in order to arrive at essential concepts, track research directions, and explore the aspects of agreement and disagreement, to be able to induce their data in a critical and systematic way. This approach helped in obtaining a solid data base that formed the scientific foundation on which the presented results and recommendations relied on.

The research results indicated that visionary leadership represents an essential element in achieving sustainable development, and that its actual application in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia enhanced the chances of success of Vision 2030 through effective future planning, optimal use of resources, and reliance on modern technology in decision-making. The research confirmed that visionary leadership is in line with the axes of Vision 2030, as it contributes to achieving sustainable development through programs such as national transformation, economic diversification, empowering the private sector, and developing human capabilities. The research recommended a number of recommendations, the most important of which are: the inclusion of visionary leadership in leadership preparation programs within governmental and private entities, allocating funding funds for research projects in cooperation with universities and research centers, to support scientific research and innovation in the fields of visionary leadership and achieving sustainable development.
