The Extent to which Classroom Activities Achieve the Linguistic Integration Standards for Arabic Language Learners who are Speakers of Other Languages

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the extent to which classroom activities for linguistic production skills meet the standards of linguistic integration, focusing on their effectiveness in developing speaking and writing skills among non-native Arabic learners and enhancing their communicative competence. A random sample of 116 students was selected from various educational levels at the Diploma of Linguistic Rehabilitation Program. The research adopted the descriptive analytical approach, utilizing a questionnaire covering two main areas: speaking skills and writing skills. The validity and reliability of the tool were verified using Pearson correlation coefficients and Cronbach’s Alpha, confirming the reliability of the results. The study found that speaking and writing activities achieved a high level of linguistic integration, with an overall mean score of 4.29 for speaking skills and 4.281 for writing skills. Interactive activities proved to be particularly effective, as the statement "Speaking activities help me develop conversation and dialogue skills" received the highest mean score (4.39), underlining their role in improving fluency. Additionally, results indicated that writing activities support the practical application of language in daily life, with the statement "Writing activities focus on the communicative aspect of language" scoring the highest mean (4.39). Accordingly, the study recommends developing interactive classroom activities such as role-playing, cooperative learning and group discussions, enhancing practical applications for writing, integrating modern technology, and designing teacher training programs to effectively instigate activities that foster linguistic integration through innovative and interactive methods. The study concludes that classroom activities play a vital role in achieving linguistic integration and enhancing linguistic production skills.
