Flexible Professional Development Directed at Faculty Teaching Members in Saudi Universities: the University of Tabuk as a Model

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the requirements for enhancing flexible professional development directed at faculty teaching members at Tabuk University by revealing the methods of flexible professional development for faculty members at Tabuk University, revealing the obstacles that may face flexible professional development for faculty members at Tabuk University, illuminating the requirements for enhancing flexible professional development for faculty members at Tabuk University, showing the extent of the existence of statistically significant differences between the averages of the sample members' responses attributed to the study variables, and building the proposed vision for activating the requirements for enhancing flexible professional development for faculty members at Tabuk University. The study used the descriptive, analytical and survey approach to achieve its objectives. The study population consisted of (1997) faculty members at Tabuk University, and (221) faculty members were selected in a simple random manner. The study reached a number of results, the most important of which are: flexible professional development methods came with a very high degree of approval, while the obstacles that may face flexible professional development came with a high degree of approval, and the requirements for enhancing flexible professional development came with a high degree of approval. Moreover, the results showed that there were statistically significant differences between the averages of the sample members' answers attributed to the gender variable, in favor of the male category. On the other hand, the results showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the averages of the sample members' answers attributed to the variable of the number of years of work. In light of the results, the researcher built a proposed vision to activate the requirements for enhancing flexible professional development, and the study presented a number of appropriate recommendations and proposals.
