Moral Responsibility in Times of Tribulations in the Light of Islamic Culture (An Analytical Study)

Abstract

Praise be to Allah، and may peace and blessings be upon the chosen one, his family, and companions. This research addresses the concept of “moral responsibility” in the context of tribulations from the perspective of Islamic culture. In the introduction, key terms are defined, including the linguistic and terminological definitions of both moral responsibility and tribulations.

The research discusses the sources of obligation towards moral responsibility during times of tribulation and explores three main pillars: divine revelation, reason as a tool for understanding, and the authority of the ruler as a source of societal organization.

The study focuses on the motivations behind adhering to moral responsibility during tribulations, addressing three motives: fulfilling servitude to Allah, abiding to laws, and ethical awareness.

The research highlights the effects of adhering to moral responsibility during tribulations, including four main outcomes: compliance to God’s commands and obedience to the Prophet ﷺ, achieving societal security, enhancing social cohesion and cooperation, and fostering societal progress and prosperity.

In the conclusion, the key findings are summarized, which include: that Islamic Shari'ah has put firm regulations to adhere to moral values in different circumstances, especially during tribulations, when upholding the unity of the nation becomes an ethical and religious duty. Also, tribulations represent a real test for individuals and societies, during which appears the extent of the individuals' commitment to Islamic values like patience, justice and tolerance. Moreover, practical recommendations to strengthen moral responsibility in Islamic societies are presented.
