The Structure of the Past Verb "Saluha" (Benefited) in the Quranic Text and its Transformative Adjuncts "a Contextual Study"

Abstract

This research aims to study the structure of the past verb (saluha) in the Quranic text and the connotation of its prefixes and suffixes and the extent of its association with the context in which it was mentioned. The descriptive approach – based on analysis and deduction connected with the transformative rules and the context – participated in bringing out the transformational dentation of affixes and their relation to the intended meaning.

The research contains three main chapters. The first chapter addresses the structure of the past verb (Saluha) without any affix, the second chapter deals with the structure of the past verb (Saluha) and its prefixes with their transformational meaning, then the third chapter deals with the structure of the past verb (Saluha) and its suffixes and their transformative function.

The research reached a number of results, the most important of which is that textual context and syntactic structure are the ones responsible for determining the denotation of the verb, not the morphological structure. Also, affixes of the verb contribute to the multiple employment of the connotation, and transform it from a verb denoting an action to a verb denoting person, gender and number.
