Directing Readings According to Imam Al-Alusi in his Book: Rouh Al-Ma'ani "An Applied Study of Selected Examples from Two Suras: Taha and Al-Anbiya'a"

Abstract

This research aims to study the directing of readings according to Al-Alusi in his interpretation of Rouh Al-Ma’ani, through five selected models from two Suras: Taha and Al-Anbiya’. The first model deals with the grammatical directing of the reading of the accusative in (Tanzeelan) from the Almighty’s saying: ﮋﮂ ﮃ ﮄ ﮅ ﮆ ﮇﮊ. The second model deals with directing the readings in (Tuwa) from the Almighty’s saying: ﮋ...ﯱ ﯲ ﯳ ﯴﮊ, as it has three readings, all of which are morphological in nature. The third model deals with the moral and grammatical directing of the two readings (La Yasbiqounah) from the Almighty’s saying: ﮋﭬ ﭭ ﭮ ﭯ ﭰ ﭱﮊ, as it has two readings, one of them: (Yasbiqounah) by opening the present tense yā and "kasrah" after the "ba"; the second reading: (Yasbuqounah) by adding "dhammah" after the "ba". The fourth model deals with the rhetorical directing of reading (Tarje'oun) ﮋ... ﯿ ﰀ ﰁ ﰂﰃ ﰄ ﰅﮊ, as it is read with the "ta" of addressing and the "ba" of third person as a style of circumfluence. As for the fifth model, it addresses the linguistic directing of the reading in (Ataina biha) from the Almighty’s saying:

 ﮋ... ﭴ ﭵ ﭶ ﭷ ﭸ ﭹ ﭺ ﭻﭼ ﭽ ﭾ ﭿﮊ,

 as it has three readings: (Ataina) with one hamzah, meaning we brought; and (Aateena) with two hamzas, meaning we gave; and (Athibna) from Al-Ithabah, meaning reward and compensation. This is preceded by giving a brief overview of the science of directing readings, as well as of Al-Alusi and his interpretation: Rouh Al-Ma’ani.

     In this research, I followed two approaches: the descriptive analytical and inductive. The research produced a number of results, including:

• Al-Alusi’s interpretation is considered a great scientific encyclopedia because it contains a large number of readings with their attribution and directing.
• Al-Alusi relied in his directing on the opinions of the imams who preceded him, from whom he quoted, such as Al-Zamakhshari, Al-Razi, Al-Qurtubi, and others.
• The diversity of the types of directing according to Al-Alusi, as they were of grammatical, morphological, rhetorical, or linguistic natures.
