Yazid ibn Hatim Al-Muhallabi: A Shining Example of a Muslim Governor An Analytical Study of his Civilizational Role in Egypt and Al-Maghrib

Abstract

This study focuses on defining the civilizational role undertaken by Governor Yazid ibn Hatim Al-Muhallabi. Following the introduction, the research is divided into several sections: it begins with an introduction to the Muhallab family and to Yazid himself, including his early upbringing. The research then examines Yazid's emergence as a distinguished leader and governor among the Abbasid state's commanders in the Mashreq (Eastern) regions. Subsequently, the study addresses his role and achievements in Egypt, where he was appointed as governor by the Abbasid Caliph. It then discusses his entry into the Maghreb and his stabilization of its affairs which had been in a state of extreme chaos and disorder, followed by his civilizational achievements in the Maghreb.

The research then shifts to addressing other aspects of this governor's biography, including glimpses of his justice and exemplary conduct toward his subjects, as well as his forbearance and noble character. The study also provides references Yazid ibn Hatim's own knowledge, what was said about him, and the praise he received. Furthermore, the research examines his patronage of scholars and writers, and the flourishing of cultural life during his era. The research concludes with a summary, or what is known as a conclusion, presenting the most important findings of the study.
