The Intrinsically Impossible in the Chapters of the Abrogative Particles، the Accusative Constructions، and the Derivatives: An Independent Vision of al-Haydara al-Yamani (A Descriptive–Analytical Study)

Abstract

This study aims to collect and analyze the issues of the intransitive in Ibn al-Haydarah al-Yamani’s book, *Kashf al-Mushkil fi al-Nahw* (Unveiling the Problematic in Grammar), specifically concerning abrogating, subjunctive, and derivative grammar. It seeks to reveal Ibn al-Haydarah’s understanding of the term “intransitive” and his methodology in discussing these issues, thereby illuminating his scholarly approach. The study also explores the distinction between the intransitive and the prohibited, and examines the arguments and justifications he employed.  The researcher adopted the descriptive and analytical approaches. This study comprises an introduction and three chapters: the first on the intransitive of abrogation, the second on the intransitive of accusatives, and the third on the intransitive of derivatives. The researcher reached several conclusions, including that this research reveals Ibn al-Haydarah al-Yamani's grammatical thought regarding the concept and meaning of the term " intransitive," which he intended to refer to something innately impossible to use. The study, which examined 25 issues, demonstrated that Ibn al-Haydarah did not confuse the terms " intransitive" and "forbidden." Furthermore, the study aligns with the title of his book, "Unveiling the Problematic in Grammar," which aims to clarify ambiguities in grammatical matters. It also became clear that Ibn al-Haydarah did not adhere to a specific school of thought, despite his inclination towards the Basran school, drawing from both the Basran and Kufan ​​schools.
