Denotation of Hand Signal Mentioned in the Two Sahihs

Abstract

This study aims to identify the signals from the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, by the hand stated in Al- Bukhari's and Muslim's, as well as the areas of their use, the definition of signal, its importance and consideration in the Shari'ah sciences. Use of signals in the Prophetic Sunnah are divided into five types based on extrapolation of Hadiths where they are mentioned. The researcher used the inductive approach and concluded that signals are legally acknowledged in Islamic law and may take the place of speech. The study also emphasized the importance of understanding the meanings of gestures mentioned in the Prophetic Sunnah in order to properly comprehend the hadith. A gesture may, in some cases, be devotional in nature, such as pointing with the index finger during supplication in the tashahhud.
