The Root Word (H-W-R) and its Meanings in the Holy Qur’an

Abstract

This study examines the root word (H-W-R) in the Holy Qur’an by analyzing its linguistic origin, its forms and structures in the Arabic language and the Qur’anic text, and its most prominent usages and formulations in Arabic. The study identifies the various forms of the root as they appear in the Book of Allah. The research outlines 24 different usages of the root (H-W-R) in the Arabic language, while its appearances in the Qur’an are limited to five distinct usages.

This study also focuses on the various meanings of the root (H-W-R) in both Arabic and the Qur’an and seeks to unify these meanings under the root’s original sense. The study concludes that although the forms of the root (H-W-R) are numerous, they generally converge on a common core meaning: repetition and return.

The paper is divided into an introduction, two main chapters, a conclusion, and appendices. This research is categorized under the thematic interpretation of the Qur’an.

The study recommends the importance of analyzing root words and clarifying their meanings, highlighting the impact this has on developing interpretive ability in understanding the Qur’anic text.
