The Impact of Using Search Engines on Developing Cognitive Skills and Academic Achievement among Technical Colleges Students in Asir Region from their Viewpoint

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the impact of using search engines on developing cognitive skills and academic achievement among technical colleges students in Asir region from their viewpoint. The study employed the descriptive survey approach on a sample of (150) technical college students in Asir region. Research tools were used, namely a questionnaire that consisted of two questions: 1) the impact of using search engines on developing cognitive skills among technical college students from their viewpoint; 2) the impact of using search engines on academic achievement among technical college students from their viewpoint. The study concluded that there is a positive and statistically significant impact of using search engines on developing cognitive skills such as analysis, critical thinking, and summarization, as well as on improving academic achievement by enhancing understanding and accelerating the completion of academic tasks. The study also showed students' preference for electronic search engines over paper books and emphasized the need to employ these technical tools in the educational process.
