Cultural Sources of Poetic Imagery in Hamza Shehata's Poetry

Abstract

This research, entitled “The Cultural Sources of the Poetic Image in the Poetry of Hamza Shahatah, ” explores the cultural influences that shaped Shahatah’s imagery. His broad cultural background and deep awareness of heritage are reflected in images that merge thought and emotion, expressing his vision of life and existence.

The study was motivated by the absence of an independent work focusing on the cultural sources of imagery in Shahatah’s poetry, despite brief mentions in earlier studies that addressed his poetry. To achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive-analytical method is adopted. The research analyzes the phenomenon, its components and meanings.

The findings show that Shahatah drew on diverse sources: historical heritage, folk heritage, and mythological heritage. These influences were employed consciously, granting his poetry cultural depth and human resonance.

The study recommends further research into other aspects of Shahatah’s work, particularly the role of rhetorical devices in shaping imagery, due to their significant aesthetic and expressive impact.
