Harnessing Islamic Historical Insights to Enhance Sustainable Development in Line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030

Islamic history provides a valuable source of information on the ethical aspects of ruling, the pursuit of justice, and ecological responsibility, which correspond today to the most widespread concept of sustainable development. Learning more about the historical framework of Islam has been especially important as Saudi Arabia continues to pursue its Vision 2030. This study examined how Islamic history can stimulate sustainable development in line with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. The study used a quantitative methodology, and the instrument used was a structured questionnaire. The study involved a simple random sampling of 48 Islamic history experts in Saudi universities. Results reported a high perceived value of the study of Islamic history in achieving sustainable development. Almost the maximum level of congruence was found between the goals of Vision 2030 and Islamic historical values. In addition, the depth of Islamic history and the achievement of the sustainable development objectives were strongly correlated. When the Islamic history study rate increased by 1%, development achievement increased by 0.667%. The key differences between the genders based on participants' responses were observed, whereas neither age nor job experience had any influence. The research emphasized the need to incorporate guidance provided in Islamic historical insights within policy frameworks to facilitate the effective achievement of Vision 2030.
